The server is down again?
Iâm wondering if one reason for the deadness is the way the spawn area has been blasted up by AFK players getting attacked by boomers and random griefing. There are no significant player buildings immediately visible from spawn so it looks like a griefed wasteland at first glance. This isnât the most attractive introduction to the server. This is why I built that protected structure around spawn on the last map but Iâm not sure I can find the time to do a building of the same size this time.
Heh, a hole has already been blasted into the ground at the spawnpoint and the village at spawn has been picked apart.
I just stumbled across one on the main server, and right next to spawn too. It currently resides in the town hall, might later return it to its cavern along with a protector.
It is possible to insulate a build from fire sources. While fire can spread into a protected area, it can’t be started inside, so you can leave a gap of only non-flammable materials around the inside of the protection. Iâve let tnt mobs go off in my protected area as a test, they still deal damage to players but don’t leave a crater.
I rebuilt the bottom part of the spawn building out of non-flammable material to protect it against lava flowing into the area. For better defense Iâll have to widen the protection, and add a non-flammable roof. Eventually.
Perhaps beds could permit a player to get in them at any time of day, with the âSkip nightâ button only showing up at night, and a new âSet spawnpointâ button only showing up if the owner allows it.
Chests have standard, locked, and protected variants that permit everyone, only the placer, and only players with protection access to use them; maybe such variants could be added for beds?
I like the markets! Even if you nerf their ability to function as a poor man’s void chest, I like having a server-wide official market system. They’re also a good reason to settle down within easy travel of a settlement. I like settlements but I think they should become more interesting and helpful, not less, as hubs of activity in their general area.
Maybe just as a quick fix to the missing markets, NPC traders could sell markets? Maybe they should be quite expensive, as markets are rare, special blocks and you only need one in the settlement. I don’t know how hard this would be to implement, but perhaps the traders could only offer this if there isn’t already a market within a certain distance.
You have to hunt for other things, I don’t think having to hunt for traders and crafters is necessarily bad, as long as you can access the basics on your own. I think ultra-rare and unique âbragging rightâ items would be fun if they don’t confer an excessive advantage onto the finder.
Already most of the mobs on the surface are easy to avoid even when walking around at night, and a stone sword is enough for fighting any of them except crocs. Perhaps some faster enemies and more ranged enemies could be added.
Heh⊠oops? I built a little wall section, then Keihdra liked it and built like 90% of it. Maybe we can just have a lot of nice large gateways in it?
