Hey carzomg! People are still around. Personally, I’ve been doing a lot of parenting and moving homes. Activity has slowed a bit but I’m hoping to help ramp it up again soon with some changes and more investment into development and community involvement.
We’ve had a bit of a lul and development slowed. But I’ve been doing some work on the site this weekend and I’m working on a project to rebrand mesecraft.com under mese.net, a new USA cloud server (that we are now on as of this weekend), and future servers in europe and asia. I’m planning to hunker down this winter when it gets cold out (chicago winters) and bundle up and get some development work done on the games. There are a few pull requests that need to be addressed and immediate bug fixes.

Are you talking in about the zoom in effect that happens when you press “Z” on the keyboard? I’ve received feedback about that and people have stated that it likely causes performance issues in terms of increased network overhead. So I may end up removing that effect completey. Would this resolve the problems you’ve listed?

So I found out the answer. I did read the farmers’ almanac post, but apparently I missed the section on pumpkins. The answer, for those who have the same question I did is the pumpkin slices that looks like just a baking ingredient, also functions as pumpkin seeds. You craft a cutting board and knife with a wood block, stick and steel ingot, chop up the pumpkin into slices and plant those, and wait for them to grow.
Patch is live on the server. This is a temporary patch! I’ll let it run for a bit before reverting.
I know it seems crass, but the reason things break like this sometimes is because there are so many things changing in MeseCraft that it makes it difficult to account for all of these and do the additional work required to put backward compatibility into everything.

I actually started a server with my friends and spawned in a village. Turns out to the left there was an awesome plains right next to an “apple forest”.
Also, would you happen to know what the stat bar under the armor bar is? I just made a post about that.
Well i just found a forest with tons of mobs. What’s the deal witht the big empty land?
Ok so a icy slime just mangled me to death. After like what felt like 20 mins of walking. Shouldn’t mobs spawn more frequently..? Can i increase it?

Yes, someone else here could probably give you more info on contributing, but I believe you are correct. You make a branch and can merge. Ideally, please try to keep merges coming into unstable and they work their way up from there (–> testing, stable)

Nice to know, I was kind of worried about that too.
I did see that the server was having a lot of problems for a period there, and I was wondering if you just burnt out/if you still had the motivation.
(I also need to learn how to contribute, such as, do I make my own branch -> merge into unstable? or do I push into unstable? how that stuff works etc)
I think the last news post was Jan, but there have been updates since. I’m still commited, I know development has slowed, I’ve been very busy (work+family)and need to layout the todo list for contributors on what needs to be done and publicize that so we can get more efficient help/contributions.
Aside from that, I’ve been designing narrative quite a bit and rethinking somethings.
There has been a lot of improvements done to the website on the backend for performance and anti-spam, and just this month there were some very nice hardware upgrades for the server the site and games run on.

I’d have to go through the code and try to minimize it’s functionality to the essentials and try to optimize when it runs or adjust timers.
That would be cool, I do like the dynamic liquid mod, but when the server is not functional, it is not something I can use.
Just curious, how would you optimize it? Since my understanding is that ABMs are single core, and that is a problem with the minetest engine.
I can check for a switch that could be added to the software that could detect the config and turn off dynamic liquids.
Welcome, good points, and I aim to get these optimized soon. I know the ABMs and smoke/fire/lava is a bit out of control but the dynamic they add is fun too.

you can adjust that in the game.conf file. you need to change the way bones mod is configured. you may need to read the bones mod readme in the files
I guess the fossilized eggs have the lowest rarity among all the other trophy items considering that you can probably just find them within sky islands.
Why can’t hoppers be setup to move them into controllers?
That maybe already in the works 🙂
That’s neat, guess there’s a lot of these trophy items then, though I was holding hope for a tamed dinosaur.
That would be pretty cool to see when looking through chests actually, the lore would be a really fun read while walking around the ruins.

If you feel like doing another journey, i’ve implemented a short term fix for it on the server that should enable them.
i had to enable them in the world.mt world file for some reason. they should be enabled through the game settings though, but it’s not working. You can give it a try now, i think they’d appear now.Ok ill get it give me another couple days. Prettu sure i know what it is. But not sure why it didnt fix it
I just pulled the recent updates into the stable server and rebooted it. Can you test it now and see if you can get a market to appear?

It’s been quiet around here, yes. We’ve been making some improvements to the game code and the website has been improved alot and performs a lot better and has better anti-spam code too.
They are using a VPN. It’s been the same group of people. Don’t give them attention. Just report & I’ll ban and look into counter-measures when I’m able. I’ve looked into some already but haven’t implemented any improvements yet.

Should protected beds set non-protected players spawn to the location? Any thoughts on this? I can see merits to both ways.
Those can show up occasionally. It’s a minetest mapgen bug from what I understand:

Maybe it’s if you try to sleep in the bed without it being nighttime? or did you unset your other bed? Anything like that? I’m not sure how it happens and wasnt aware of this until today but it sounds like its frustrating.

Looks like it can remove spawn points, which then probably the spawn point reverts back to the server default spawn.
I don’t have time this weekend to fix it, sorry.
I have no idea what reverse is supposed to do. It looks like it might be a check so that the bed properly removes itself to fix a bug that happens sometimes. If anyone who can code can take a look when convienant, that’d be awesome. If there isnt an issue for this filed on github, we’ll need to file it.

I think the lava thing is due to smoke processing and liquid processing. His post was held up in moderation and I just approved it. @adude sorry for not seeing it sooner.

I added them to the global game config, but they should have been working already.
i need to enable these markets in the world settings, or better yet, enable them by default. weird theyre not in the game settings… they should be for MeseCraft. need to check this tonight.

Yes, 1K is considered orbital zone. Then 3K is moon. Lots of room and ideas to be built with space. Hopefully new planets and areas with unique biomes one day.

Which mountains and colors do you mean? the volcanoes? They are just stone and dirt i think?
Sprint, not going to add it,it’s asked for a lot, but I think it makes mob evasion too easy. I think sprinting will be tied to magic (mese) abilities and items instead of a player ab ility that can be used anytime. Not sure if springing really adds anything meaningful to how players interact with mobs and the game.
TNT man, yes he is bascically just a discount bargain bin creeper-like guy. I can’t put in a creeper texture for obvious reasaons, but other than that, it’s a great mob to have in since he just blows up.
Also, the eggs season are not working because the hacky way I implemented seasonal mobs. When they spawn they instantly do a check to see what the date is. if its not xmas time, they disappear. It was the only way I could figure out how to make mobs seasonal without requiring server reboots during the holidays. I’m hoping there’s a better and more effcicient way eventually. People have complained about a low mob rate. that should be improved for sure.
Mese is an alien (foreign material) ore that is valuable. That is how it will be according to the lore at least. Energy source and maybe some special alloy material.
Yeah, I heard once 343 took over it was starting to decline. I haven’t played Halo 5, but just a couple weeks ago I sat down with baby momma and we played through Halo Coop 1, 2, 3, Reach, and 4 in that order on Heroic. It was a lot of fun. I don’t think I’d get to the point where I’d read the books. A lot of the story and campaigns in Halo are confusing. There is so much jumping around and back and forth, but the gameplay is very solid and the locations are different and fun, good weapons, vehicles. I tried reading a Halo book about 10 years ago but never really finished or got too into it.
We’re (we as in contributers and I) actually gradually replacing textures with versions that are redone and colored by a 64-color palette I’ve selected.
Mailbox, Fireplace, and a few other items already have new versions. You’ll see more coming out soon.
Oh, thanks for the information. The bug(if i not wrong) is because the extra biomes mod uses the buckets mod, not mesecraft_buckets mod. I will try to fix it.
And i have a question, i can post a photo of the progress of the project this discussion?
And if Kiopy7 see this, the extra biomes mod have vanilla like biomes.
Thanks Kiopy7, i have a discussion on the Creations section about the project, i started to working on it.
I working on a Exploration Update for MeseCraft with new biomes(with the extra biomes mod), more nether content, in-game skin editing(with edit skin mod), maybe end-game content… Dinosaurs on very deep cave biomes(an idea of Kiopy7), and many other things like auroras in the cold biomes. The member MeseCraft say this is a good idea.

Kiopy7, that is the BEST idea for MeseCraft rigth now, the game needs more life. I want It on the game too.
@keihdra The update hasn’t made it into the main branch of the game yet. Right now it’s only in the unstable (alpha) branch. Then it will move through testing branch (beta) –> the main/master branch (mesecraft). I tested it last night and it did generate islands at the right elevation but it seems like there was a crash too involving an inventory placement. (log above this post)
As for your game and the servers, once the update is in the main branch, it will just mean that islands will now generate around 500. the ones that have been generated already will still be there where they were.

OK, I’ve moved cloudlands biomes to +500 altitude with a +/- 100 variance. Someone should test this out with cloudland portals!
You can’t see webp images?
They have to be good though. Some of the ethereal biomes are pretty good. Some are repetitive.
I like all of these, I’ve been wanting to include more biomes, another planet with different biomes, skins, and nether content. 🙂
I’ve been considering adding a testing minetest-server on a new server online that is not ran on the same hardware as “stable”
i shut down the testing server, freed up some memory, maybe that will help. let’s see. Let me know in an hour or two. It could just be busy on the server our server is on. (we have “neighbor” servers on the same hardware other people run)

Actually, there is an option to move protections to another account. Antrica1 was spamming and was banned, a donyboy alt, I’m pretty sure, but there isn’t actually a ban in the game still on the account. Antrica is in the forums still too.
FYI,
I’ve been thinking about this as you’re not the first person to say this to me. When I made the repository, I didn’t know much about git. I still don’t. I mainly chose notabug because 1.) I liked the simplified UI, it was easy to navigate for me 2.) TenPlus1 used it, and I liked his mods starting out my modding. 3.) It aligned with FOSS really well. However, the feedback is piling up and I think it might be beneficial to consider changing this to a better git. I’m still learning git as we go and am by no means an expert on this.
I don’t understand a lot of the features that come with changing to a better one and am simply going to imitate what the Minetest project uses, which is GitHub. I hope there is not a conflict of interest in this with Microsoft but if there are ethical dilemmas with this, I’m open ears.
For now, I think it would allow more developers to contribute to MeseCraft by switching use to GitHub. Unfortunately it is the standard right now in Minetest and MeseCraft needs manpower and contributions over time, and I think switching to this platform will make it more accessible for many software contributes.

I was correct already Antrica2 showed up. So Antrica and Antrica2 are both banned accounts/IP’s now.
If this continues let me know.Antrica, you cannot troll that stuff maliciously in this game server. This game is hosted for a general audience and your messages are intended to create a hostile and lewd environment to hurt and upset other players. That is not in-line with the culture and goals of this project and community.
Antrica’s chat privileges have been removed. Hopefully this stops the bad behavior. If it continues let me know please.
Moving forward, this may just mean Antrica will come back with a new username. If that happens, let me know and I can start escalating this to IP bans and IP range bans that start affecting their VPN IP ranges.

Yes, I can look into it. When did this happen? I Can check logs. Any keywords they used that will help me find the chat messages? I have to search the logs.
Fire basically needs to be stopped by protectors, and someone needs to code that in.
Still possible with boomers.
I think protectors will protect vs fire in a future update.
